They say,

Zonzo Estate is located in the heart of the Yarra Valley, 2km West of Yarra Glen. The Yarra River runs along the southern boundary and has influenced the formation of the rolling hills the vines are planted on today.

The soils are varied as a result of the Yarra River’s activity over the centuries. Featuring predominantly grey loams to grey brown with mudstone throughout. Approximately 90m above sea level the vineyard was planted in 1995.

Currently the vineyard is undergoing a transformation with renewed vigour to express the site and varieties through the production of quality small batch wines in the newly built winery.

Spice and herbs are once again evident on both the nose and palate of the Estate Pinot Noir and reveal again the hallmarks of our vineyards. Dark cherry notes are also expressed and are reminiscent of Christmas pudding, yet the balanced freshness managed by delicate acidity maintains a beautiful elegance on the palate. Pinot Noir spice plays a part in delivering detail along the full length of the palate. The velvety supple- ness of fruit is kept in check by fine tannins which also aid in the length of this wine.

Hand Picked. All but 5% was destemmed and fermented in open stainless steel fermenters. No fruit was crushed. The 100% whole berry portion had minimal work carried out on the cap with one hand plunge per day. The ferment tem- perature was maintained to a maximum 26 oC. Pressed off on day 9. The bunch/whole berry ferment was kept on skins for 11 days, with a rundown and then gentle foot plunge to ensure all sugars were released from whole berries on day 6. Pressed to tank and then run off to barrel for malolactic fermentation.
